A Greenwich Village townhouse staged by Studio D recently appeared in The Wall Street Journal Website. The property is at 23 Downing Street in Greenwich Village, New York and is for sale for $9,500,000.
The home was originally built in 1826 and has been altered several times since then. The RenaissanceRevival style facade was added in 1886.
Good Property co-founder and principal broker Joshua Gurwitz purchased the property through an LLC in 2011 for $3.35 million. It is the company’s first project in New York.
According to Gurwitz, they chose to retain the building’s façade because of its landmark designation. The renovation involved excavating the backyard of the building to increase the lower level space. A fourth floor was also added, enlarging the property from 2,400 square feet to approximately 3,700 square feet.
A section of the property’s backyard has a skylight which allows daylight into the lower living area. This is a signature feature for the company.
The townhouse is truly a masterpiece with a touch of homey warmth that took 22 months to complete from acquisition to the completion of its renovation.
